Red Oak

Milled from the superior timber found only in the Appalachian region of the United States. More consistent in color and grain pattern than Red Oak from other regions of the U.S. Red Oak has a bold open grain. Heartwood has a reddish tone while the sapwood is slightly in color. Red Oak makes a strong, durable floor and is the most prevalent specie used for hardwood flooring. Its popularity stems from its durability, and pleasing grain and color. Hardness/Janka: 1290. Red Oak is used as a flooring benchmark.

#1 Common Red Oak
	Occasional character markings and slight color variation gives a slightly less formal look than select.

Rustic Red Oak
	Containing a variety of naturally occurring character markings including; knots, seasoning checks, worm holes, grub holes, mineral streak, and varying color and grain patterns. Makes a beautiful informal floor. Second only to White Oak in rustic grade popularity.

Select Rift Sawn Red Oak
	Uniform color, displaying straight less prominent parallel grain lines with small frequent ray fleck. By definition, rift sawn lumber has growth rings which form an angle of 30 to 60 degrees with the wide surface of the board.

Select Quartersawn Red Oak
	Uniform color with straight parallel grain lines with a bold ray flake pattern, sometimes called tiger striping. By definition, quartersawn lumber has growth rings which form at an angle of 45 to 90 degrees with the wide surface of the board.

#1 Common Rift and Quartersawn Red Oak
	A combination of rift and quartersawn grain patterns with occasional charter markings.

Select Rift and Quartersawn Red Oak
	A true combination of rift and quartersawn flooring. Normally contains 60% rift sawn and 40% quartersawn material, but will vary depending on mill run.

Select Red Oak
	Uniform color, displaying a variety of oak grain, virtually free from character markings.
